How can I switch my primary display used in Windows' Projection Mode? My problem is that the primary display (connected via DVI-D) is identified as the projector (and has been assigned the number 2 even though I have selected it to be the primary best picture winners list monitor) and that the projector is identified as the screen (and assigned number 1). On my Thinkpad T42 my DVI output didn't work while connected docked in my docking station. What helped to use it properly was to boot with it connected. PSU seminar report: How do people choose a travel mode? - Active Right of Way Last Friday I attended the PSU Transportation Seminar lecture by Robert Schneider, “How do people choose a travel mode?” Schneider presented results from his dissertation research o palmenbaum studying the travel patterns of people shopping at different Walgreens stores in the San Francisco Bay Area. He shared a five-category scheme for factors that might influence travel behavior, as well as a five-prong scheme for looking at decision-making for individual trips, both of which offered insight into where to look to influence people’s mode choices, but in my opinion the most useful tool he presented for advocacy was the use of a detailed survey of people’s paths throughout their trips. Most surveys ask only about primary trip mode, but Schneider’s surveyers traced the participants’ routes on the map and asked how each part of the trip was taken, so that if a person drove to the shopping center and then walked around to different stores, the walking path was recorded as part of the trip too. Even though many of the study participants had driven to the Walgreens location, a large percentage of trips included some walking around the shopping area. Schneider found that walking was more likely in shopping areas with certain characteristics, such as higher density and greater tree cover. These results are a reminder that looking at single-destination trips, or thinking of trips as consisting only of their primary mode, is an oversimplification at best, and a serious mistake at worst; that it’s possible to influence people’s o palmenbaum behavior at intermediate points in their journeys. Not only that, but it may be easier than getting them to change their major mode of travel. Far more people choose to walk at some point during their day than choose o palmenbaum to walk as their primary mode of travel, and all of these walkers are potential supporters of a better walking environment. In the middle of all the excitement about virtual worlds in general and Second Life in particular, professional 3D designers were raising eyebrows at a new opportunity to sell their content. A virtual world with a million regular users who were engaged in consuming digital content, specifically, 3D models? And doing so regularly? Half a billion US$ of yearly transactions? Strong DRM in place (what we residents call the permission system )? All that just to prettify avatars and put them on poses on top of some virtual furniture? Well, it seemed too good to be true. And there was, indeed, a catch: you had to use Linden Lab s own application to create content which was designed having amateur content creators in mind, not professionals. Professionals, well, used meshes and had done so for over a decade. They populate marketplace sites like Renderosity, DAZ3D, BlendSwap, and who knows what else; doing business selling COLLADA soul train don cornelius files (or at least Wavefront OBJs or Blender files or whatever was popular at the time as a file format). They used Maya, 3DS Max, Blender professional content creation tools. They had graphic pipelines fine-tuned for their own work design once, deploy everywhere. A few naturally went that way, and prospered. But the rest of the professional 3D content creation world stayed away. And, ironically, as the media started to lose interest in SL, Linden Lab spread rumours that mesh import would be available as an option in the near future. While you can change things like brightness, there are no controls for altering the display's color and contrast. Samsung isn't like most manufacturers, however. The company is one of the few that actually lets users choose their own display mode. This option, which is rare to see in such a device, offers accurate colors and is a good choice for viewing high-end Adobe RGB-standard photos, such as those taken with a DSLR camera. The experts over at DisplayMate found that while in Cinema Mode the Galaxy S5 had the most accurate colors of any smartphone or tablet they have ever tested. This mode is great for viewing photos of friends and family, watching movies and TV shows, and even when shopping for products online. It's best to use Cinema mode when you are inside and in areas with low ambient lighting. At the same time, however, it can also reduce color accuracy and contrast levels. Disabling this feature will help unleash the phone's full light output capabilities while also improving color and contrast ratios. Modify Sculpted Prim with Blender Edit Mode | Blender Tutorial for Second Life's Sculpted Prim After we have shape it with sculpt cassandra clare books mode, let’s give him some punk hair with Blender edit mode. 1. (the color may be difference for each Theme.) 4.Next, click on the cube button in the menu bar below your 3d workspace. (It’s call “Occlude Background Geometry” command) This cube icon will make your sculpted prim not look transparent and easy to work with. 5. Zoom in with wheel mouse and rotate your screen with middle mouse to view back of the sculpted prim head. 6. Press shift and right click on some vertices to select it, try to give some space between each vertex. We will pull these vertices out and make it look like punk hair style. 7. When you ready press S (S = Scale Shortcut in Blender) on keyboard and move your mouse away from sculpted prim. 8. Left click to confirm scale command . You get the funky hair style with Blender Edit Mode! PS. You can modify the human head as you like by right click on each vertex and press one of these key G key – Move vertex around. Shooting with a prime lens is unique because it allows us however briefly to shift that rigid frame. And the more you relinquish yourself up to a prime, the more the lens' frame becomes the frame by which you see the world. The Panasonic 14mm f/2.5 for micro four thirds systems is a great companion to the GF1 (or the Panasonic GF2 ). It's a lovely, sharp, whisper quiet, quick to focus, watch the oscars unbelievably tiny, beautiful prime lens. I highly recommend it. It s not perfect for low-light, handheld indoor shooting (the 20mm f/1.7 s speed is handy there). But it s a fantastic and welcome wider angle companion to the Panny 20mm pancake prime. For over a year I ve shot almost exclusively with the 20mm f/1.7 . And while I thoroughly enjoy it, I often long for a slightly wider field of view. So, understandably, I my attention piqued when Panasonic announced their 14mm f/2.5 prime. The day the lens went on sale, I ran over to Bic Camera in Tokyo. I slapped it on my GF1 and was shocked so much space! This shock comprises a sliver of the joy of shooting with primes. By using a prime, you train both your brain and your eyes to think in their space. A zoom lens allows you to shift the lens-space to your brain-space . But with primes you re stuck in their world. You become intimate with life within their frame until composition becomes second nature. And so to throw an extra 12mm ( 20mm - 14mm x 2 ) of field of vision onto the camera carries quite a shock. Disparate things that didn't fit in 20mm space suddenly fit. For example, those two tiny women and the opera house and the married couple above this image wouldn t have been possible without that extra space brought about by the 14mm lens. With a single gesture changing lenses your visual lung capacity increases. The sky explodes over subjects and you have to forcibly reframe the world because your brain is stuck in 20mm mode. Your mind's eye shifts an internal aperture expanding to welcome the new space. And you start to wonder how the hell did I live in such a small box before? Many of us shoot to see the world more intimately. Or perhaps, to remember watch the oscars the world more intimately. At least I know I do. Curious, that. To get closer we have to stick a bunch of glass and metal and plastic between us and the world. But it works. This increasing layers to increase perception of intimacy reminds me of one of my favorite artists, James Turrell. The architectural spaces he creates bring ancient things like stars and the sky closer, simply watch the oscars from the use and shape of materials and a subtle manipulation of light. Thoughtfully adding layers to minimize or change our relationship with distance. They slow us down; force us to genuinely engage something we may have only hitherto passively observed. And they make us consider why these tricks of light and space change our relationship with the world. The other day I was walking through the Cartier-Bresson exhibit at the SF MoMA. I was struck by many things (an overwhelming compulsion to travel, for example) but was most shocked to see how little is in focus. I love this. Fuck focus. It s an affliction. A disease. This desire to see (and thereby internalize) and envelop the overflowing and heartbreaking and beautiful found around us when we take time to look. And the starkness of this elemental nature was brought into sharp relief when I switched to the 14mm f/2.5 . A small but important awareness. A surprise lesson in remembering why I photograph and how simple changes to your kit can manifest in larger insights. Bresson, unfocused detail It s been about a month and the 14mm f/2.5 still lives on my GF1 . I've yet to pull it off. The results are satisfying but I also miss the extra stops of light afforded by the 20mm f/1.7 . Sometimes, those stops help. But when they re not necessary, I m happy to have the extra space with which to compose. Interestingly, Lightroom 3 has dramatically improved its noise reduction algorithms. And as such, you can now use a GF1 at 400 or even 800 ISO and get acceptable results. So while you lose a couple watch the oscars stops moving from f/1.7 to f/2.5 , Lightroom has given them back to us in this late
